Rivera explains the benefits of single endodontic appointments rather than having work done in multiple appointments. He mentions several important aspects of the field, especially the standard of care that every endodontist must provide, and the problems that dentists face every day along with effective techniques to address them.  After providing a clinical definition of endodontics, Rivera discusses important aspects of the immune system, dental disease, root canal infection, bacterial elimination by instrumentation, chemical disinfection, and intracanal medication. He also describes diagnostic procedures and treatment options.
