American cinematographer Benjamin Gaskell explores how intentionality impacts execution and personal fulfillment in the creation of any work of art. Through his journey of mastery, Ben shares the tools that have allowed him to cultivate meaningful experiences, a sense of identity and purpose in the pursuit of his calling.

Ben´s work ranges from shooting world record breaking feature Honor Flight: Stars and Stripes amongst other feature-length films, to musical projects with artists such as David Crosby, Caught a Ghost and The Deer Hunter, to working on several other short, educational, commercial and documentary series projects. In 2015, he was accepted into a private cinematography institute founded by two members of the American Society Cinematographers where he studied under several members of ASC. He continues to freelance as a director of photography, holds a membership in good standing with the Society of Camera Operators and is a visiting professor at the Universidad Francisco Marroquin´s School of Film and Visual Media in Guatemala City. When he's not on set, Benjamin can be found volunteering with the American Society of Cinematographers, reading copious amounts of fiction, practicing his inability to paint watercolors or play bass guitar. He tends to loathe selfies, but enjoys a fine tequila or mezcal. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
