James Carafano currently serves as Vice President at Kathryn and Shelby Cullom Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, and the E. W. Richardson Fellow. James is a leading expert in national security and foreign policy challenges. He is an accomplished historian and teacher, as well as a prolific writer and researcher. Graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and served 25 years in the US Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He has a master’s degree and doctorate from Georgetown University, as well as a master’s degree in strategy from the U.S. Army War College. His most recent research centers on developing the national security required to seal the long-term interests of the United States. Focusing on the protection of the public, providing for economic growth, and preserving civil liberties.
