The Progress of Freedom: The Last 50 Years of Freedom

About this video

In this video, a panel of experts analyzes the high and low points experienced by freedom during the last half century. Their observations focus on the United States and Latin America and draw on their many years of experience at the Cato Institute, Liberty Fund, and the Foundation for Economic Education. The specific topics explored in this discussion include the distinction between liberty and democracy, the welfare state, the influence of the United States abroad, and the role of technology and new media outlets in promoting the cause of freedom around the world. The influence of specific institutions, including the United Nations and the Catholic church, are also examined. The discussion ends with a look at the serious consequences resulting from the deterioration of the rule of law during the last fifty years.
