Robert Cooter is the Herman F. Selvin Professor at the University of California at Berkeley. He teaches the economic analysis of law, and has taught contracts, torts, corporations, financial services, the theory of adjudication, and law and anthropology. He was a founding director of the American Law and Economics Association; cofounder of the Berkeley Electronic Press (BEPress) and of the Latin American and Caribbean Law and Economics Association (ALACDE). He is coauthor of Law and Economics and Solomon’s Knot: How Law Can End the Poverty of Nations. Cooter holds a BA in psychology, from Swarthmore College, MA in philosophy, politics, and economics from Oxford University and PhD in economics from Harvard University. He received honorary doctorates from Hamburg University, Germany and Universidad de San Martin de Porres, Peru.
