In the seventh edition of the College Freedom Forum, held at Universidad Francisco Marroquin, activist Faisal Al Mutar, a survivor of the chaos in Baghdad, recounts his experiences and describes the constant threat of violence and the loss of loved ones in the midst of ongoing turmoil.

Even in the darkest moments, there is a choice to fight back against oppression." — Faisal Al Mutar

Faisal was exposed to authoritarianism at a young age, grew up in an academic and apolitical family. His father's cautionary words about speaking out against Saddam Hussein and the necessity of listening to overseas broadcasts to understand the reality of living in Iraq highlighted the pervasive atmosphere of fear and surveillance.

Following the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime, Faisal witnessed the rise of new threats, including Al-Qaeda, which terrorized communities and forced individuals to choose between submission or resistance. Despite the risks, Faisal chose to fight back, embarking on a journey of activism by translating the principles of free speech and freedom of religion into Arabic to educate others.

If I'm going to die, I might as well die with dignity." — Faisal Al Mutar

Then, Faisal founded Ideas Beyond Borders, the largest classical liberal organization in the Middle East. Through translation efforts and social media outreach, the organization has garnered millions of followers across the region, providing an alternative narrative to the oppressive ideologies that have long dominated. Faisal, also, initiated a program known as The Innovation Hub, in which he actively invests in the future of his region.

We have inspired millions across the region, showing that we can build a global movement for freedom." — Faisal Al Mutar

Faisal emphasizes the importance of defending freedom in free societies and supporting those still living under authoritarian rule. He urges individuals to take action, from communities, and uphold the values of liberty and justice for all. As a testimony to his resilience and dedication, Faisal's organization stands ready to support those who seek to challenge oppression and build a brighter future for all.
