Journalist and co-founder of Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS)

Abdalaziz Alhamza is co-founder and spokesman for Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RBSS), a group that uses citizen journalism to expose ISIS terrorist tactics in Syria. While studying biology at Raqqa University, Alhamza organized protests and nonviolent demonstrations against the Syrian regime. When ISIS invaded Raqqa, in 2014, Alhamza fled Syria and from abroad helped form RBSS. The group uses both social networks, photos and videos of smuggling, to show what life is under the ISIS regime. RBSS has also served as an important source for news agencies and news outlets around the world. RBSS recently received the International Press Freedom Prize 2015 from the Committee for the Protection of Journalists; and from Foreign Policy magazine, the Global Thinkers award.
