Psychotherapist and activist against Female Genital Mutilation

Leyla Hussein is a psychotherapist specialized in working with survivors of sexual abuse. She is an international speaker on the subject of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and gender rights. She is recognized as one of the most important experts on this topic worldwide and her work has been presented at Oxford, Cambridge, University College London, Leeds, Exeter, Coventry University, Geneva International School, Columbia, Harvard University, Pennsylvania, Georgetown University and George Washington University.


She is the founder of the Dahlia Project, the first therapeutic service in the UK specialized in supporting survivors of FGM, Face of Defiance and is one of the co-founders of the anti-FGF Daughters of Eve Foundation. Her documentary «The cruel cut» was nominated for a BAFTA award.
