She is a women’s rights activist in Gambia, particularly focused on transitional justice during the democratization process. Leads The Toufah Foundation in support of survivors of sexual assault in Gambia. She has spoken before the United Nations as part of a young people’s forum on human rights, presented at the International Criminal Court at The Hague, and testified at The Gambia’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Her activism has inspired many in Gambia and during the #MeToo campaign, she became a force against rape culture and human rights violations in West Africa. She also organized the first women’s march against rape in her country.

She wrote the book Toufah: The Woman Who Inspired an African #MeToo Movement with award-winning journalist and Editor Kim Pittaway, and in June 2021, she was featured on the We’re Not Crazy, You Are podcast.
