College Freedom Forum Human Rights Foundation Libertarian Activism LibertyIn the sixth edition of the College Freedom Forum, held at the Francisco Marroquin University, the Director of MPC and Education Department, Ronald Flores, interviews Toufah Jallow, a human rights advocate and author of Toufah: The Woman Who Inspired an African #MeTooMovement.
Toufah Jallow explains that when she grew up in Gambia, the conversations around sexuality or rape was a taboo. She shared her grief about being raped by the most powerful man in her country so she became a refugee in Canada.
I say to myself we don't have mutual stories that are visible and it's not like it's not happening.”
In 2019 after therapy and work, Toufah shares that it was important for her to be brave and courageous, and speak out so that she could be herself again. Then she explains the process that led her to write a book and inspire other young people with her journey.
For me it is multi-dimensional, it is for democracy, for women's participation, for women's rights, for participating in the governments that we want.”
Finally, Toufah describes that she goes to Gambia to work on a documentary about the lives of survivors of violence, participating in the transitional justice process, and women's rights.
We invite you to watch the lectures and interviews from the College Freedom Forum 2020.
