Robert Neuwirth shares his experiences living and working in squatter communities during the process of research for his books Stealth of Nations and Shadow Cities. He stands out the effectiveness of self-government towns, their social organization, entrepreneurial commerce and their skills to create job opportunities. He also points out that the existing legal structures are one of the reasons these communities are socially excluded. Neuwirth concludes by stating that squatters are at the forefront of the worldwide movement to develop new visions of what constitutes property and community leading them into a growing economy.
