Honorary Doctoral Degree Awarded at May 2015 Commencement

Mary Anastasia O'Grady receives the Honorary Doctoral Degree in Social Sciences during the graduation ceremony of May 2015 at Universidad Francisco Marroquín. She greets and congratulates graduates and their family for their achievement after a long journey, and speaks on how students are products of those who went before them. She also encourages them to find their passion in life and so work will not be a burden. Afterwards, she describes some characteristics of freedom and emphasizes the importance of not taking it for granted. O’Grady talks about different forms of freedom of expression in every profession and by quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson she says that when we use our God-given talents to reach our highest potential, we are giving ourselves and making the case for freedom. Finally, she thanks Universidad Francisco Marroquín for the recognition and its educational labor.
