The Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) hosts an engaging MPCafé where students share their insights on the topic of "What is value?" Kicking off the session, Nicolás Fairhurst welcomes attendees and introduces the theme, setting the stage for a rich exploration of the concept.

Nicolás Bonilla delves into the notion of economic value, emphasizing that it transcends mere monetary worth and is intricately linked to personal and societal beliefs. He prompts the audience to reflect on how these values shape their decisions. Matías Estrada continues the discussion with a philosophical perspective, examining how cultural and ethical dimensions influence our understanding of significance in life. His insights encourage attendees to consider the evolution of societal values as a vital aspect of their collective consciousness.

The fourth type of value is the sentimental personal ideas that I hold with these bills”. — Nicolás Bonilla

Ana Lucía Barrientos takes the stage to emphasize the emotional dimensions of value, sharing personal anecdotes that illustrate how relationships and life experiences contribute to one’s sense of worth. She asserts that community often outweighs material possessions. Ana Isabel Castañeda builds on this by discussing how values shape identity, arguing that cultural heritage and personal experiences significantly inform one’s sense of value, making it a deeply personal yet shared phenomenon.

Art is meant to reflect human life humanity and its purpose is to be contemplated”. — Ana Isabel Castañeda

Diego Rodriguez offers a critical perspective, warning that social media can distort perceptions of self-worth. He critiques the impact of digital platforms, noting that they may lead to unhealthy comparisons and misalignments between personal values and societal expectations. In contrast, Nina Fleming advocates for recognizing the inherent value found in nature, emphasizing environmental sustainability and the importance of ecological balance in discussions about value.

What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make”. — Nina Fleming

As the session concludes, Thomas Fairhurst summarizes the key ideas discussed, expressing gratitude for the insights gained. He notes that this exploration of value has been enlightening and multifaceted, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and leaving attendees with a deeper understanding of the diverse meanings of value in their lives.
