In the seventh edition of the College Freedom Forum, held at the Francisco Marroquin University, the Director of MPC and Education Department, Ronald Flores, interviews Faisal Al Mutar, an activist deeply invested in the intersection of technology, human rights, and freedom. He grew up in Iraq under Saddam Hussein's regime and was exposed to authoritarianism from a young age.

Even in the face of adversity, choose to live with dignity and fight for your beliefs." — Faisal Al Mutar

Despite his young age, he refused to succumb to the oppressive forces around him, realizing that living under Saddam Hussein or Al-Qaeda was untenable. And the tipping point for Faisal came when he narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt by Al-Qaeda, this harrowing experience solidified his resolve to fight for his beliefs. His activism began during high school when he and some friends translated parts of the US Constitution into Arabic, particularly emphasizing the First Amendment's principles of freedom of speech and religion.

Every small action can lead to impactful change." — Faisal Al Mutar

Over the years, Faisal's activism evolved, leading him to establish a team of translators who have translated millions of words of classical liberal materials into various languages, making these ideas accessible to millions across the Middle East. Recognizing the limitations of imposing democracy by force, Faisal emphasized the importance of education and accessibility in fostering true understanding and acceptance of democratic principles.

Embrace the challenges ahead and work towards building a brighter future for your country." — Faisal Al Mutar

Inspired by his experiences, Faisal founded Ideas Beyond Borders, an organization dedicated to spreading liberal ideals and promoting entrepreneurship in the Middle East. He emphasized the resilience and potential of the Iraqi people. His message to his younger self and to the youth of Iraq is one of hope and determination, reminding them that despite the difficulties they face, they have the power to effect meaningful change and shape the destiny of their nation.
