About this video

David Hume (1711–1776) was a Scottish philosopher whose theories and thoughts have been subject of debate since they were created. His moral philosophy is the main subject of this Socratic dialogue between Donald Livingston and Armando de la Torre. Livingston discusses the objective moral order and how it has been confused of being subjective, talks about the relationship between reason and tradition, the discovery of consciousness, and Hume’s concept of reason, among other topics. De la Torre, on the other hand, states that Hume’s thoughts and philosophies are parochial and comments on the difference between the classical mind and the modern mind, and the cause of Hume’s melancholy and delirium. He lists various objections that he has towards Humes’ ideas, including the subject of evolution, moral values, negation of falsification, among others.
