Graduation Honorary Doctoral Degree LiberalismMary Theroux delivered a speech at the university’s graduation, and expressed deep gratitude towards the university for giving her the honor of speaking at an institution renowned worldwide. She starts her speech by paying tribute to Manuel Ayau, the visionary founder of Francisco Marroquin University, and she says Manuel’s dedication inspired generations, especially in advancing classical liberalism. Following this, Mary highlights the privilege the graduates have had in studying under the principles of liberty and human rights.

The speaker also focused on her personal experience, and talked about one time, 40 years ago, when she realized her life lacked a guiding purpose. She then asked herself if she was truly using her talents in service of something meaningful. This led her to dedicate her life to promoting liberty, and committing to ideas that helped empower other people.

Lewis, and underscores the unpredictability of life, highlighting the importance of dedicating oneself to meaningful pursuits. Mary urges them to reflect their lives and what they believe in, reminding them that their education has prepared them for this journey.
