About this video

Cyril Svoboda lectures on the integration and transformation that the Czech Republic went through during its development process. By giving a brief description of the geopolitical situation of his country, he emphasizes on the importance that the Czech Republic has in Europe since it is right in the center of the continent. He talks about the economic integration which was accomplished through the joining of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the dilemma his country had on joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and the fact that with joining the European Union, the Czech Republic had to share its power and sovereignty with other member states. Finally, Svoboda illustrates the two crises that took place in the European Union, how the process of enlargement prevailed over the process of integration before it was stopped by the European Union, and also comments on the crisis of multilateralism.
