Antigua Forum Education Film UFM

The Antigua Forum is an exclusive, annual gathering of political reformers and entrepreneurs from around the world who believe in the power of human ingenuity and free enterprise to dramatically improve the well-being of people everywhere.

Robert Chatfield, president and CEO of the Free to Choose Network, was interviewed by Francisco Gonzalez, CEO of Fearless Journeys, at the Antigua Forum organized by Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala.

Free to Choose Network is a global media organization that promotes personal, economic and political freedom through a variety of media, particularly film. Chatfield explains that films have a significant impact on people because they can translate complex research into a story that all people can understand , effectively changing hearts and minds.

We're really out there trying to change the hearts and minds of people."— Robert Chatfield

Robert talks about the origins of the Free to Choose Network, which began when Bob Chitister, founder of the organization, wanted to create a response to a 13-hour series by John Kenneth Galbraith. With the help of Milton Friedman and George Stigler, the network produced the influential Free to Choose Series.

He mentions his experience as a finance professional and how he moved from manufacturing to academia and film. Chatfield taught finance classes and met many think tanks, which led him to join the Free to Choose Network.

The opportunity to make an impact with millions by doing that same messaging was very intriguing to me." — Robert Chatfield

He further explains that his role as president and CEO of the organization revolves around understanding and promoting the philosophy behind his films, as well as raising funds for their production. Chatfield also mentions its education division, creates videos for classrooms, and highlights the success of its financial education video on YouTube.

We make videos specifically for use in the classroom, and I'm very proud of what we did on financial education."— Robert Chatfield

Finally, Chatfield reflects on his experience at the Antigua Forum, noting how the questions and projects of others have made him think of better approaches for his own future projects.

Join us at the Antigua Forum, where project owners receive feedback and ideas for their initiatives, and the importance of interactive dialogue and learning from each other's perspectives.
