About this video

In this interview, Richard T. T. Forman talks about the ecological issues currently facing Guatemala City and how the city’s topographical features affect urban design and planning. He also talks about green building, energy efficiency, the challenges of transportation and traffic, and public health issues related to industry and contamination of the city’s ravines. Forman explains that architecture and ecology are closely related and architects are increasingly taking ecological issues into consideration and applying LEED standards to their projects. He promotes the idea of thinking environmentally and looks at the serious ecological consequences of eliminating trees and vegetation and replacing them with concrete.
